Easy Syrup-Based Recipes 2F

For the below addtions - I would sometimes just add small amounts of these ingredient combinations directly to the bottle - but if you'd like to make a syrup that can sit in the fridge to use any time? These work beautifully.

Ginger & Lemon Syrup Base

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh ginger
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Simmer 15 minutes, strain, cool. Use 2-3 tbsp per 500ml bottle.

Spiced Maple Syrup

  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp grated nutmeg
  • 3 whole cloves

Warm gently for 10 minutes, strain, cool. Use 1-2 tbsp per 500ml bottle.

Berry Syrup

  • 2 cups mixed berries
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar

Simmer until berries break down (10-15 mins), strain, cool. Use 2-3 tbsp per 500ml bottle.

QUICK NOTES:

  • Use clean, sealable bottles (swing-top or screw cap)
  • Leave 2-3cm headspace for carbonation
  • Ferment at room temperature, away from direct sunlight
  • "Burp" bottles daily to release pressure
  • Strain and refrigerate when you're happy with the flavour and fizz
  • Fresh or frozen fruit both work beautifully
